Hey there!
When we move into this house the master bathroom had carpet. Yep, carpet. And no, there wasn't tile or anything under that carpet. Just wall to wall carpet. Ew. We weren't here long before we ripped it out and got to work on the master bathroom.
Before.
Our very first project in bathroom after moving in was to have the shower enclosure replaced. I got stuck in the shower because the door just wouldn't open. and with Ed working nights I had to rely on one of the kids to come let me out. I was not a happy camper.

Next up we found where we could order cabinets like ours and ordered a cabinet with 3 drawers to replace the small, single center drawer. We prefer the drawers to the open space and really needed more storage. The stain did not match very well but that is to be expected after so many years so we chose to paint the cabinets Peppercorn from Sherwin Williams. I think it was a good choice. If I had realized the difference in the color of the stain would be so noticeable and that I was going to end up painting the vanity anyway I would have bought a much cheaper cabinet and saved us some money. Lesson learned.
Next we removed all of the carpet and Ed enclosed the area around the toilet. I prefer to do my business in private. We then got to work on painting the room, putting down Pergo flooring, changing out the builder grade mirror, lighting, hardware and toilet, adding stone tile around the vanity and tub and we added open shelving in toilet room (fail for another post). When Ed enclosed the toilet area he also added an additional exhaust fan and replaced the old one. It was a lot of work but in the end worth it!
Here are some after pictures. This is what it looked like when we were done last year. Since then we have made some changes that we will share in a future post.
Details:
- Pergo flooring is Bainbridge Oak Embossed wood plank from Lowe's.
- Stone tile was from Lowes.
- The walls were painted Sea Salt from Sherwin Williams.
- I can't remember where the mirrors were from but hated them after a while and replaced them, post to come later.
- I sewed the window coverings myself. The fabric is from Joann's.
- The lighting came from Home Depot.
- The faucets came from Menard's.
- The towel rings, toilet paper holder and cabinet pulls are all from Lowe's.
- The new shower surround was special ordered from Lowe's.
- New toilet from Lowe's.
We kept the major things such as the shower and tub with the tile that was already there and the vanity with top (minus the part we replaced).
Soon we will share the changes and fails we had with this room remodel.
